Traditional Bread Pudding

Contributed by Jessianne Doman, Pleasant Hill 2nd Ward

Serves 8-10

At first glance, the following recipe may not seem "healthy", but in order to make this traditional recipe please don't substitute ingredients

Ingredients:

½ stick melted butter
4 c. any white bread
1 ¼ c. white sugar
2 c. heavy cream
2 c. light cream
4 eggs slightly beaten
1 ½ tsp. pure vanilla
1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
Pinch of salt
Pinch of brown sugar and cinnamon on top for baking.

Directions:
  • Preheat oven to 350
  • Grease bottom of 9x13 pan with butter
  • Spread bread in pieces covering bottom of pan
  • In large bowl beat eggs
  • Add heavy and light cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and mix well
  • Pour egg mixture over bread (mixture should just cover bread--if it doesn’t, add a little more cream)
  • Pour melted butter over the top
  • Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon
  • Bake at 350 for 35 minutes or until firm (but not dry)
  • Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
