Carmelitas

My grandmother's recipe, and our family's all-time favorite dessert.

Ingredients:

1 c. plus 3 T flour
1 c. oatmeal
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 t. soda
1/4 t. salt
3/4 c. melted butter
1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped walnuts or pecans
3/4 c caramel topping

Directions:
  • Mix 1 cup flour, the oatmeal, brown sugar, soda, salt, and melted butter.
  • Press half the mixture into an 11x17 pan.
  • Bake at 350 for 10 min.
  • Remove from oven; sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts.
  • In a bowl, blend caramel topping with remaining 3 T flour.
  • Pour over chips and nuts to cover.
  • Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture on top.
  • Bake at 350 for 15-20 min.
  • Chill.
